It's hard to comment on this book. The author mentions at the end that one of the stories from the book, as the novel is mainly a collection of short stories told by the characters, whenever he read it to audiences had a tendency to make people pass out. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I remember reading it at sometime in the past (before I bought this book last weekend) and it has a nauseating effect, to say the least. I don't doubt his account is true.

Much of the book is that way. It's not so much in its graphic nature. It is graphic, but not more so than many less disturbing books. It's not so much the writing style, although I can't complain about that, the book reads well. It's not even so much the story- which was the surprise for me, as I had no idea what the book was about so I won't tell you exactly what the book is about. The story is... odd, but I've certainly read crazier.

It's hard to explain. The book is well written, entertaining, worth reading, BUT, it will leave you with a kind of a quiet, depressed, hopeless feeling. I'd compare it to the feeling I had after I watched Pan's Labyrinth and was depressed for about 2 weeks- only without any possibility of a happy ending.

Be warned, the book is written by the author of Fight Club and shows even less respect for your senses. There's a bit worse than a bunch of guys beating the crap out of each other going on here.
